HOW LOW CAN HE GO?SCHUNDLER
USES REAGAN AS POLITICAL PAWN IN PATHETIC CAMPAIGN
5/4/01 As
his poll numbers hit new lows, so do Bret Schundler’s campaign
tactics.
In his latest radio commercial attacking Bob Franks, Schundler uses an
unauthorized recording of Ronald Reagan and labels himself as a
“Reagan Reformer”, despite the fact he worked to unseat President
Reagan as a political operative for Gary Hart in 1984.
“Bret Schundler is trying to trick Republican voters into believing
he’s something he’s not,” said Charlie Smith, campaign manager for
Bob Franks. “Bret Schundler is not a taxcutter, he raised property
taxes by 79 percent in five years. Bret Schundler is not a fiscal
conservative, he’s increased debt and supports Florio-esque tax plans.
Bret Schundler is NOT a Ronald Reagan Republican, and it’s absurd that
he is now trying to recast himself as a Reagan disciple.”
“Bret Schundler should be ashamed of himself for trying to fool New
Jersey voters and for compromising the image of one of our nation’s
greatest leaders,” added Smith. “Real Reagan Republicans will reject
Bret Schundler’s tax and spend record, just like they rejected Gary
Hart’s liberal agenda in 1984. Real Reagan Republicans will support
Bob Franks’ record of cutting taxes, paying down the debt, and
protecting Social Security.” |
